I fell. I fell hard. With a 30 pound pack on, going downhill. My hiking companion scooped me up off the ground, asked if I was hurt, took a look at my bleeding leg, and said, "let's just sit here for a second." I, on the other other hand, being totally embarrassed kept saying, "it's fine, it doesn't hurt that bad, it's fine." Thankfully there were only 20 minutes of hiking to be done before we reached the car, and I figured that I had just a small abrasion with minimal bruising. No big deal. I'm tough!
Over the next couple of days, the bruising extended to my whole shin, and down my foot. Lovely/scary shades of purple. Thanks to all of my co-workers that acted horrified when I made them look at my battle wound. I've never had bruising over this extensive of an area before. It's my whole leg! Then it started to hurt, but I figured it was healing (please don't question my logic, it seemed sound at the time)? Now, 1 week later, I've got some pretty hardcore edema going on in my ankle, and it's super painful. I've spent the whole day thinking about Vichow's Triad and deep vein thrombosis. I'm pretty good at freaking myself out. And for the first time in a long time, I'm going to see a medical professional tomorrow. That's right, the doctor. That hasn't had to happen for quite some time (thank you super-immunity!). I don't think that they'll be able to do much for me, but I want to get the okay to go hiking. I imagine that Tioga Pass will close potentially or the season, and it's my weekend! I must get to the East side one last time!
