...and it's awesome!
In college I think I was referred to as the "recycle bitch" as in...if you don't recycle it, you will get a lecture from me. This was fine because my roommates were more than willing to take an extra 2 seconds to sort the recyclables from the trash. My family, however, although they recycle some...my mom still throws out certain recyclables "because it's just easier that way". I'm still working on them....slowly but surely. My dad has issued a ban on plastic bottles because of some report he saw in his Backpacker magazine about water bottles taking over the ocean or some such thing...so it is working...
So, with all my past history of conservation efforts, you can imagine how great it is to work for a green company. Our general manager is willing to spend 25 % more on products that are better for the environment:
All of our cleaning agents are biodegradable and organic (another plus of this is that we don't have to wear gloves when using it) our disposable utensils and straws are made of cornstarch, paper products are at least 70 % recycled, we don't use those little soap/shampoo bottles that just get thrown away...we have refillable dispensers instead, and we recycle EVERYTHING! I think we would have a compost pile for leftover pizza crust if it weren't for the bears. It's such a nice change from working at the hospital (I know why we throw everything away but...it's a lot of waste), and other national parks (ahem...Glacier) that has no conservation effort whatsoever. So, I love my company...they're awesome.
The best is that at the end of the season they take suggestions for ideas of how to further conserve resources and whomever's idea they use wins $250! I'm thinking that I'll make the suggestion of cloth napkins at our pizzeria...a la Shakespeare's...I love that place!
Make sure you recycle that!
