So with my new love found of adventure racing (not actually racing because...come on...the slowest hiker in the world does not qualify to participate but rather be a spectator) I am very, very excited about Primal Quest kicking off in Utah this weekend. However, this is when my job starts...so keep me updated if you are able to watch! I'm hoping for the following teams to do well because I have met them personally and therefore have the right to cheer them on...and want them to do well.
First up...Team Nike. They are truly amazing because unlike other teams...AR is their job. They are paid to train and race...not a bad gig if you prefer to push yourself to extreme physical and mental limits on a regular basis. Funny story about the Mighty Mo Expedition and Team Nike....the day before the race started, Nike's support crew dropped them 40 miles from where the race started so they could get some extra training in...crazy!
Also cheer on the Silly Rabbits. From California...these guys (and girl) are definitely going for a place in the top 10. The fact that they adventure race in their free time blows me away because one is an ER doc, one is a professor at Stanford, one is a screenwriter, and I'm not quite sure what the other guy does. Anyhow, super nice...hilarious (they love the Chuck Norris jokes)...awesome competitors...wish I could see them in action at PQ!
Last but not least, the local favorite (if you are from Missouri) Dynamic Earth. I'm hoping for them to finish...and if they do that...it will be an amazing feat in itself. I spent quite a bit of time with their alternate Karen and her husband down by a swamp in a trailer park in southern Missouri (we manned a checkpoint together for the Mighty Mo) and talked with the rest of the team at length after the race. They are full of heart and determination, and all around the nicest people you could ever meet...I'm sending my well wishes their way to have a great race.
So yeah...watch a bit of the race if you have time...you might learn something...and then call and leave me a message giving me the updates! Thanks!
