First things first. Thank you so much for all the congratulations and support for my new job. You guys are the best!
Now on to...basketball. I just finished watching Mizzou vs UConn in the Elite 8. We gave them a run for their money! My sister was here last week and we had a conversation about how bad Mizzou was at the high-profile sports (men's football and basketball) when I was in school. And it's true. I never had a chance to go to a bowl game, and all I remember is watching NIT tournaments. So I'm glad they've gotten better. It's exciting to be a tiger. However, I don't feel as connected...especially out here in Portland. They don't really care about Missouri, or even the Big 12 for that matter, so I've had to watch several NCAA games online because Portland thought it would be more important to show the Duke/Villanova game?! But to be fair, I haven't been the best fan. I'm usually multitasking while watching the game. I miss the days when I knew the players well and would sometimes run into them on campus. But now that I don't really know anything about the players...I don't care as much. Katie = bad Mizzou fan.

Being reading a lot lately and feeling inspired. First up is a book borrowed from my sister, but it's actually my sister-in-law's ...

That's exactly how it was when I lived in California - in terms of people not caring about the Big 12. No one in Cali even knows where Missouri is -- my students kept asking me, "You're from Michigan?" So it's nice living in OK, back in Big 12 territory and watching the Tigers actually be competitive against the Sooners. Heck yeah! M-I-Z-Z-O-U!
