snow

One of the reasons I moved to Portland was the promise of no snow. People that lived here kept telling me over and over...we rarely get snow, and if we do, it doesn't stay around long.

Well, this is an exceptional year as I have been snowed in since Monday. Part of it is my own doing (I have a terrifying fear of driving in snowy/icy conditions) and part is Portland's fault. Two inches of snow and the city shuts down. They don't salt the roads because...I don't know why...they say it's too cold for the salt to work. But what about places like North Dakota, Minnesota and anywhere in Montana? Obviously places who are used to a lot of snow and cold weather cope...handling bad weather is not a mystery!

Being stuck in the apartment is just another issue on top of many other issues that I'm upset about currently...I'll be better soon (hopefully).

Oh NO! That's really weird about the salt thing... In Idaho they always sanded the roads, which I didn't think helped much either.

You should use this as an opportunity to learn to drive in the snow. Seriously. If I was there I'd take you out and force you to learn. Just take the car, hit a big parking lot somewhere, and practice.

heard about the crazy snow times in Portland, katie. i KNOW how you feel about the snow. but at least you're NOT in your car and snowed in. last winter at school it took me 5 hours to get home from school... which NORMALLY would have taken 10 minutes. seriously. once i figure out the time difference between you and me now, katie, i'm giving you a call. what's wrong???
