For a wedding thing: I (along with the other 3 bridesmaids) have to come up with a flower that best represents me and say why...so I thought, and I thought and I realized...
I know nothing about flowers and/or their meaning
For example: my friend MJ is from Texas...so she picked a yellow rose because it has some kind of connection with Texas (and I believe there is a song titled "The Yellow Rose of Texas)...which is cool. So I looked up the state flower for Missouri and it is...a hawthorn (which I'm pretty sure I haven't ever seen...or if I did I was totally oblivious to the fact). I think that a hawthorn is not a very popular flower because I usually do not overhear people at the florist counter saying, "and stick a couple of hawthorns in there if you could." So I decided to do some research and found some interesting meanings such as:
BASIL hatred
CURRANT Your frown will destroy me
DANDELION Coquetry, love's oracle
HEMLOCK You will cause my death
ICE-PLANT Old Beau, rejected, your looks freeze me
JASMINE I am too happy
LAURESTINE I die if neglected
LILY (tiger) I dare you to love me
MARIGOLD Cruelty in love, inquietude, jealous lover
MISTLETOE I surmount difficulties, I want to be kissed, you are a parasite
So now I know if I receive a laurestine bouquet to be a little extra careful...and run the other way as fast as I can. I also like the Tiger Lily because that's my dog's name...and the meaning makes her name even more appropriate.
As far as picking a flower that represents me...I'm still working on it...hit me with some suggestions...

Being reading a lot lately and feeling inspired. First up is a book borrowed from my sister, but it's actually my sister-in-law's ...

what about an orchid? cool and mysterious... needs a little care, but always looks good? and its just pretty. :)
I've got it. Be a "Glacier Lily." The reasons are obvious.
This post made me laugh, especially the part about being at a florist and requesting hawthorns.
I almost went with magnolia because I love the ones that bloom on the MU campus, but I thought that might be hard to get for a party in mid Mo.
I think Tiger Lily would be pretty appropriate for you. Also, I think they are in bloom around now (late summer).
Good luck!
